Ingredients
Solace Incense is made of only special ingredients. Many have been used for their medicinal and spiritual properties for centuries.
Each ingredient is selected based on the freshness and overall quality, but also from sources that practice sustainable and ethical practices on all levels.
Trees:
Alligator Juniper (Juniperus deppeana) - From Arizona's high country, fragrant cedar-like scent, native to central and northern Mexico (starting from Oaxaca), named for its distinct alligator skin-like bark. Sourced from fallen trees and shipped in bundles from our family in Arizona.
Red Willow (Cornus stolonifera) - Known as "Cansasa" to the Lakota, Red Willow Bark comes from the inner bark of the Red Dogwood, found all over North America. Often used during times of ceremony to show respect or give spiritual protection. Sourced from the First Nations tribe in Canada.
Boswellia Dalzielii (B. dalzielii) - One of the lesser harvested Frankincense resins in the world, it is green in color and has a bright citrus, amber scent, highlighted by notes of mint and camphor. The Frankincense used in Solace incense comes from a local supplier in Nigeria and is the most western Frankincense species. B. dalzielii contains the highest amount of Bowelliac acids of all the species. Often used medicinally, as a chewing gum, or burned as incense in places of worship. Frankincense also has many amazing mental health and spiritual attributes.
Although, due the more recent demands in frankincense, and frankincense essential oils, supply chains in specific regions like Ethiopia, Sudan, and Yemen, are under pressure. The main Frankincense species traded internationally are often being over-tapped, which hurts the trees, making it hard for them to reproduce, and the loss of these trees can cause instability in local communities who rely on their harvest for supplementary income. Some of these Frankincense species are also facing potential extinction.
Please click "Frankincense" blog for more information, and ways to support harvesters, and to protect these special trees.
Plants:
Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon californicum) - Spanish for "holy weed" or "holy herb", Yerba Santa is found all over the western United States and Mexico. Often used medicinally in the Southwest for respiratory issues, it is also used as a smudge for protection and setting boundaries. Yerba Santa is considered the "feminine" to the "masculine" Sage, and is said to release hurt and heartbreak.
Uva Ursi (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) - Used medicinally in Southwest Native traditions, this herb is often made into tea or is often incorporated in ceremonial pipe blends. Often called bearberry, the edible berries from this plant are a favorite food of the local bears. Uva Ursi is also said to heighten psychic abilities and/or clear psychic channels.
Mullien (Verbascum) - Considered a common weed, with its silver leaves and yellow flowers, Mullein has been used for thousands of years in herbal medicine, cooking, and even as a flavoring agent in alcohol beverages. It is said to instill courage, attract love, and keep away nightmares.
White Sage (Salvia apiana) - This sage from California is also called "Buffalo Sage" and is of the Salvia genus, as opposed the more commercial sage, which is of the Artemisia genus. This sage grows in the Sonoran dessert, in California, Mexico, and other parts of the Southwest. Used for centuries in Native American traditions for purification, and ceremonies having to do with life and death.
Solace incense is made only of the the above ingredients and is bonded together with Laha powder, a tree powder from Nepal, and with distilled water. No added fragrances or anything else. We hope you find Solace incense to be as special as we do.
